Do you frequently experience jaw pain? Have you noticed that your teeth are getting worn down? Or maybe you’ve been having tension headaches? If any of these are true it’s possible that you are suffering from a jaw disorder called TMD, also referred to as TMJ. At White Settlement Family Dentistry, we can diagnose and treat the condition to help you get relief from the discomfort and pain.
TMD stands for temporomandibular joint dysfunction/disorder. You may also hear people refer to it as TMJ disorder. The temporomandibular joint is responsible for moving your jaw up and down, which affects many daily activities such as chewing, talking, and yawning. TMD/TMJ is a common disorder that affects 20 to 30% of adults, many who are between 20 and 40 years old and are women.
There are a variety of factors that can cause damage to the TMJ, but many times, stress reactions, such as grinding or clenching teeth (sometimes while you sleep), are the culprit. If you believe you might be suffering with TMD/TMJ, we can provide tests to determine the cause of your tension headaches and to take a closer look at what might be causing your concerns. We’ll then come up with a personalized treatment plan to set you on a path to being pain-free!
